The group is comprised of local artists Paul Garner, Edgar Reeves and Mike Kiser.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. at Play Selma located on Water Avenue. Admission is $10, and the Black Belt Benefit Group will be serving drinks at the bar.

Reeves’ wife, Amy Reeves, said the shows started after weekly gatherings at their house.

“My husband and a group of men play guitar every Thursday at my house,” she said. “I think they wanted to take the next step and play in front of an audience.”

After the positive reception from the first show, and after several requests from fans, the organization decided to plan their next show.

“They came up with the idea of the first show and it was received so well by the public,” Amy Reeves said. “Everyone that we would run into would be like, ‘hey when are yall playing again?’ So, they decided to contact Clay and the Black Belt Benefit Group to partner and play like they did last time.”

According to Amy Reeves, events like these offer something different to the community. She said it makes her feel like they are in a big city and she feels that community members appreciate the music just the same.

“It’s a hobby that’s fun for them, and that they enjoy getting out and playing in front of people,” she said. “It’s always great to have live music in Selma. I just think people really enjoy coming out to hear live music.”
