A 54-year-old Selma woman was sentenced Wednesday for 16 years behind bars in a six-year-old domestic violence case.

Elizabeth Blount pled guilty to manslaughter for killing Joseph Callines on May 6, 2012 at the block of 729 Twenty Foot Avenue South. The Selma Police Department were dispatched at 6:15 a.m. on May 6, 2012 and discovered a deceased person.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Blount was sentenced in Dallas County Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins’ courtroom.

“This domestic violence situation had a very tragic ending,” Jackson said.

Callines, 47 at the time of his death, was in a bathtub taking a bath when Blount shot and killed him.  They were in a relationship, but Blount discovered he was allegedly having sex with her niece. The niece’s name was not identified in the police report.

After the 2012 shooting, Blount was charged with murder and placed in the Dallas County Jail. Dallas County District Court judge Bob Armstrong issued a $250,000 bond.

Jackson was the District Attorney at the time of the murder.
