Coming in October, the Get Fit Selma event will start up, and allow locals to make healthy choices while also having fun.

Exercise is all about forming healthy habits that will benefit all people in the long run.

It is not easy to keep these habits, but events like these are a fun way to get started.

We encourage everyone to attend Get Fit Selma, and to start their own health journey.

Learning about the different diseases that afflict us when we lack in exercise is also important.

Those diseases are hypertension, diabetes, type 2 diabetes and they are aggravated by obesity and an inactive lifestyle.

This epidemic is sweeping across the nation, and changes must happen in our lifestyle and eating habits.

The only cost to guests is the registration fee for the 5K and the one-mile walk and run events. The cost for the 5K for adults is $25 per person and $15 for youth. The one-mile walk and run is $10 for adults and $8 for youth. There will also be discounted rates for teams that participate in the 5-K run and the one-mile walk.
The schedule of the events includes the following:
8 a.m. Defeat Diabetes 5K Run and Community Fun Run registration opens at 6:30 a.m.
8:15 a.m. community one-mile fun run/walk
9 a.m. Free Health Screening

10 a.m. exercise and fitness expo
11:30 a.m. healthy food happening
