Editor’s Note: This story reflects a clarification after a story in Wednesday July 25’s edition regarding Kingston Elementary opening later due to thefts. The school will open as scheduled.

Selma City School Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams said that repairs to Kingston Elementary School should be done by the time school begins on Aug. 6.

As opposed to what was previously reported in Wednesday’s edition of The Selma Times-Journal, Kingston will open regularly with all of the other Selma City Schools, according to Williams.

“We may have repairs done by then, but if not, a plan to ensure there is no loss of instruction will be put in place,” she said. “We will communicate with parents by next Wednesday, Aug. 1, of all the details.”

Williams and Selma City Schools Director of Operations Joe Peterson said that numerous thefts had occurred recently at Kingston and R.B. Hudson Middle School.

Suspects stole copper wiring and the inside mechanics of numerous HVAC units over the course of the weekend and last week, according to Peterson.
