An Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held Thursday to announce the opening of Selma Health Care.
Dr. Sean Bohannon left Vaughan Regional Medical Center after five years to become the physician in the new health care facility located on 203 Vaughan Memorial Drive.
Bohannon was accompanied by his wife, Dana, and three of their four children: daughters Abbie, Molly and son William. Their other son, Cameron Bohannon, wasn’t present because he lives in Greenbrier, West Virginia. Dr. Bohannon is a native of Pace, Florida.
“We’re branching out and doing our own thing,” Sean said. “We’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. The opportunity presented itself. We’ve brought in a new staff. I’m very excited.”
“He’s been waiting to do for this a long time,” Dana said.
Tuscaloosa resident April Davis, who designed the Selma Family Care building, completed the operation in a matter of weeks. Davis’ office is based in Birmingham.
“I’m extremely proud of it,” Davis said. “We had 60 days to finish it. We did a lot of work in a short amount of time. It was fun.”
Selma Family Care practice manager Vickie Austin praises Bohannon for striking out on his own.
“It shows his investment in the community,” Austin said. “This facility is great for the community. We’re here to provide state of the art technology to patients.”
Ward 1 Councilman Carl Bowline, Ward 3 Councilwoman Miah Jackson, Dallas County Probate Judge runoff candidates Jimmy Nunn and Nick Switzer were among the high volume of county residents in attendance.
