The Alabama Tourism Department’s statewide “Restaurant Week” is quickly approaching, and the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information is still accepting restaurant registrations.

The week-long event that showcases locally owned and operated restaurants will start on Friday, Aug. 10 and last through Sunday, Aug. 19. At no additional cost for participation,

restaurants will have set meal prices on both a lunch and dinner menu. The lunch menu items will be $10 and $15, and dinner menu items will range between $10, $20, $30 and $40.

Charise Clay, destination and marketing coordinator for the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information, said the restaurant week allows people in Selma to try different restaurants, and also allows restaurants to gain more business.

“They are able to not only gain local promotion in their community, but they are also able to gain a larger platform,” she said. “Once they register for restaurant week they are registered with all the other restaurants in Alabama. People who aren’t necessarily from Selma will be able to see restaurants they have never heard of before.”

In an effort to inform the public of their participation, all participating restaurants will be provided in-store promotional items.

Last year, almost 100 restaurants participated statewide in the event.

“We’ll have a list here at the Chamber of all the restaurants participating that week, and we’ll also promote them as well.” Clay said.

In 2016, Selma had about seven restaurants participate and Clay said she hopes there is a good turnout of restaurants this year. Clay said the goal is to exceed that number in participation this year.
