No major arrests occurred on the Fourth of July, according to the Selma Police Department.

Police Chief Spencer Collier and Lt. Kenta Fulford said no major incidents took place Wednesday.

“We didn’t have any issues,” Collier said. “It was quiet.”

The police department however does have ongoing investigations.

The Selma Police are investigating a shooting into an occupied residence that happened at 1 a.m. Thursday morning on the 200 block of McDonald Avenue. Collier said a suspect hasn’t been caught.

Fulford acknowledged several calls came from shots being fired, but no victims. The police report lists 21 incidents of shots fired, but no victim Wednesday. Tuesday’s report listed 10 shots fired incidents but no victim.

The department also received several calls about fireworks complaints over the last two days. They received 16 calls regarding fireworks on Wednesday. Five firework complaints were reported Tuesday.

Fireworks are banned in Selma and the city prohibits the selling, buying and using within the city limits. It is only legal to bring fireworks into the city limits, but they must have been purchased. Selling, purchasing or using fireworks is a misdemeanor with a penalty of $500.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues after a man was found dead Tuesday morning in a field on Pettus Street and Abbott Avenue.

Quentin Davis’ body was found in a field.  Collier believes Davis, 24, died in an exchange of gunfire on the 400 block of Pettus Street after the department received a call about the shooting Monday.

“We’re still canvassing the neighborhood,” Collier said. “I’m confident we’ll get the case solved.”
