On July 21 the Mayor’s Youth City Council will be hosting a Selma Starz Talent Show at the Selma Riverfront Amphitheatre. The deadline to sign up is Friday, June 29.
With the Starz Talent Show being their first major project, the Youth City Council is hoping to motivate kids to get involved within the community.
To register for the talent show, those seeking to perform must go to city hall and receive a form or contact the Youth City Council’s President Richard Water at (334) 419-1895.
To perform, individuals must also be 11 years or older.
Spots are limited as only 50 are available.
For spectators, there is a $5 entrance fee.
Waters said he is excited for the talent show and thinks it is a great way for youth in the community to get involved, which is how the idea was formed.
“I’m pretty excited about it. It is something for our community to do and get our youth involved,” Waters said. “We were trying to come up with productive ideas to get the youth involved, and for us as a city to give back to give back to the community. I’m hoping that a lot of kids will enter because it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Zully Montero, Vice President of the Mayor’s Youth City Council, also shared Waters’ excitement, and said this project is just one of many they have hosted.
“We’re really excited because this is our first major project,” Montero said. “This is the first year the Mayor’s Youth City Council has been formed and we really want to start doing big projects for the youth in our community.”
According to Montero, the other projects the youth city council have done include hosting art shows and revitalizing a cat room at a local animal shelter.
They also hope to host a movie night in the future.
During the talent show, a panel of judges will be present, and the first place winner will receive over $50, Montero said.
