“The event is to raise money to help the animals to come through the Selma Animal Shelter,” said Jacque Johnson who is working to organize the event.

The event is hosted by Selma’s Purrrfect Pals and Sky Hill Animal Society.

“We pay for all the vetting,” said Johnson. “Any of the animals that are about to be adopted, we have spayed or neutered, and we get them up to date on the vaccinations before we hand them out for adoption.”

Johnson said that the groups also help with some medical issues as well.

“Occasionally some of the animals have problems,” Johnson said. “Recently we had one in danger of losing an eye, so sometimes we do have medical problems arise. Some dogs come in heartworm positive, but sometimes we can actually do the treatment.”

There will be a treasure sale as well.

“We have received a lot of donations from people,” said Johnson.

Baked goods are still being accepted for the bake sale, as well but Johnson asks that the donated baked goods be heat tolerant.

Bake sale items include homemade bread, brownies, blondies and cookies.

“We also will have animals that are up for adoption that day,” said Johnson

Adoption for cats are $50 and $100 for dogs and that includes a spay or neuter procedure and a microchip installation.

At this event, the shelter will be running a special adoption fee of $25 for all cats that have been at the shelter for six months or more.

Johnson said it varies greatly on how many adoptable animals are in the shelter at a time.

There are about 20 cats that are adoptable in the shelter and usually 12 dogs at a time that are adoptable.

“We’d love for the public to come and meet the animals and buy baked goods and treasure,” said Johnson.

The Selma Animal Shelter is located at 206 Medical Center Parkway.
