Kids ages 8-13-years old looking to improve their football skills will have the chance to learn from Selma High School football players and coaches at the Selma High School Youth Football Camp on Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The Saints wrapped up spring practice two weeks ago, but Saints head coach Christopher Raymond wants to keep his team engaged with the local community.

“We just wanted to do something to give back to the young kids and give the football players some community service hours,” Raymond said. “We wanted to invite the community to support us and let them know what the Saints are doing.”

At the football camp, the young athletes will be able to see how they stack up in the 40-yard dash, standing broad jump, short shuttle and three cone drill. The Saints coaches and players will help coach the campers through the drills and give them tips on how to become better football players.

First-team Times-Journal All-County selections Gabriel Wade and Jeremiah Wright will be there with the rest of the Saints football team to help guide the campers.

Campers will have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to prepare their game for middle school and high school competition. They will also be taught proper techniques and informed about player safety.

“We just want to get the kids here,” Raymond said. “We want to show them what we are doing over here at Selma High School.”

Campers can register for the camp early at the Selma High School office, or by contacting Raymond at (334) 874-1690 or at christopher.raymond@selmacityschools.org.

The camp costs $20 per camper or $15 per camper if they bring five or more teammates to sign-up with them. Lunch will be provided for all campers. Pre-registration ends Friday, June 1, but campers can also sign-up the day of the event.
