Crosspoint Christian Church is hosting its very first Low Country Boil Saturday, May 19 from 2-5p.m. Although the event will be packed with fun filled activities and finger licking good food, the main goal is to raise funds for local causes.

Tickets are $25 individually and $45 for two. Children ages ten and under are free.

All proceeds will benefit the Bloom House, Safe Harbor and the Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center.

Event organizer and Crosspoint Christian Church member Katie Griffith said she and fellow co-organizer Kim Crowe spearheaded the event.

“I went to the main pastors and said, ‘this is really important, we need to be doing things for people that are serving right here in our community’,” Griffith said.
Griffith learned about the work the three organizations do in the community, and thought it would be a good idea to help raise funding to continue their causes.

“My goal is to raise as much money as we possibly can,” Griffith said. “I want people to come out and learn about [each organization].”

Each group will have representatives present to explain their services to the attendees.

Jennifer Dobbs Safe Harbor, executive director, said the Low Country Boil is a good way to raise funding for their organization, and she is thankful to the church for thinking of Safe Harbor.

“I think this is gonna be a great event because it is gonna draw a lot of different people in and raise awareness of our services,” Dobbs said.

Some of the services offered by Safe Harbor are free parenting classes, pregnancy testing and options counseling.

Dobbs said this is not the first time Crosspoint has supported their cause.

“Crosspoint has supported our ministry, as a church, since the beginning,” Dobbs said. “They were aware of what we do and they just wanted to come up with an event to help us as well as the other two organizations.”

Much like Safe Harbor, The Bloom House and the Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center are also committed to providing a better life for local children.

The Bloom House provides resources and assistance to foster families and orphans. The Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center provides services for children dealing with abuse and neglect.
