The 21st annual Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament was postponed after rain flooded the Valley Grande Golf Course last week.

The tournament was moved to Wednesday, April 25, and Chamber executive director Sheryl Smedley said things are moving along and she is hoping for a good day.

“We do a lot of planning and organizing of the event to make sure everybody has a good time,” Smedley said. “We want everyone to come out and have a great time.”

Smedley said there are 23 teams signed up to play, and unfortunately, they have no more spots available due to limited space on the green. Smedley said there are still hole sponsorships open for $125.

“We’re a membership organization, so this is the only revenue event that we are currently doing at the Chamber of Commerce,” Smedley said. “It’s for the day to day operations and programs through the Chamber.”

Smedley said the tournament is a good way for people to make connections as well as see old friends.

“It’s an event where people would normally not see each other,” she said. “It’s just a great networking event that’s not inside in the office. It’s laid back.”

Smedley said everyone always seems to have a good time playing and eating lunch at the event together.

“This will be my ninth tournament and no one has ever told me once that they didn’t have a great time,” Smedley said.

Checks should be made payable to the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and mailed to 912 Selma Avenue, Selma, AL 36701 for anyone wanting to become a hole sponsor, or donate to the Chamber.
