The Selma Charity League is getting ready to wrap up its trivia nights at The Sandbar where each month, they donate the proceeds to a different local charity.

“In the past, every month we would do a spotlight charity. The members of the league actually did the donating,” said Charity League vice-president Amy Jones.

“We decided last year to get the community more involved in it and we were trying to figure out what we could do, and we decided on trivia night.”

The Charity League has been hosting trivia nights at The Sandbar since September, and after a successful first go at it, they have plans to continue it in the future.

The group will hold its monthly event tonight at 6:30 p.m., and the last one of this go around will be May 11. They plan to resume in September.

This month, the proceeds from the night will go to the Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center.

Jones said each month, they have raised between $300 and $500, and many times, the teams that win also give their winnings to the charity of the month.

“I absolutely love it. I like to volunteer anytime that there’s something going on,” Jones said.

“Any time any other organization needs help with something, we’re more than glad to help them. We just love giving back to our community.”

Jones said everyone tends to have a good time at the trivia nights whether they’re participating or just hanging out and watching.

“Everybody loves it and it’s something different for them to do. Everybody loves to come out and socialize,” Jones said.

“It’s just a really good atmosphere, it’s fun and entertaining. It’s something different.”

Those interested in participating can email charityleagueselma@gmail.com or contact them on Facebook at Selma Charity League. The cost is $10 per person and teams can have up to six members.

“We hope that everyone will come out and if not play, just support and donate toward the charity,” Jones said.
