EDITORIAL: Organizers should consider downtown businesses, sidewalks during Jubilee

City leaders have come together with organizers of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee to bring the street festival back to Water Avenue this year after moving last year.

While it is great to see them coming together on one accord, they need to be on the same page when it comes to the plan for where exactly the festival will be set up. Will one side of Water be open? Will both sides be shut down? Those are all questions that need answering.

The city, as well as Jubilee organizers, need to take each business in downtown Selma into consideration. We’re sure businesses would like to benefit from having so many visitors in town.

They should also consider the newly redone sidewalks on Water Avenue.

It would be a shame to see them messed up if proper measures were not put in place to protect them. A lot of time, money and effort went into redoing them. It would be careless not to keep that in mind.
