EDITORIAL: City must find a way to move forward

The Selma City Council voted Tuesday to reinstate Ronita Wade as city treasurer. Wade was fired twice by Mayor Darrio Melton last year after he accused her of insubordination and bad accounting and management practices.
There are concerns of Wade being fired again, which would put the city right back to square one. This entire situation needs to come to an end. As several council members said Tuesday during Wade’s due process hearing, this has been an embarrassment to the city.
Somehow the mayor and Wade need to find a way to get along. This cannot continue. It has already slowed down the city enough. We hope this situation can be resolved and city leaders can get to work instead of arguing.
