EDITORIAL: Citizens make a difference in helping law enforcement fight crime

Monday afternoon an armed robbery suspect made off with a cash register from the Dollar General on Roosevelt Avenue. Officers searched the area after the robbery, but they could not find the suspect.

Hours later, a tip from someone who recognized the suspect paid off with an arrest. Curtis Hall was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery. Evidence from the robbery was found at his home, and he was wearing the same clothes from the alleged robbery. This is proof that the community plays a big role in helping police officers combat crime.

Officers have said it in the past, and they will continue to say it. They need the community’s help. Kudos to the citizen who saw the photo from the robbery and took action.
This should serve as encouragement to others to do the same in similar situations.

Citizens can make a difference if they say something. We salute the person that made the tip and the officers for the arrest.
