The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic violence shooting that left two people injured at a home in Orrville.

The incident happened at a house on County Road 340 between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Capt. Mike Granthum with the sheriff’s office gave the following account of the incident:

Jeffrey Cochran, 37, and Roberta Tower, 35, were in a domestic dispute when Cochran pulled out a 9mm pistol and shot Tower in the neck.

Granthum said after shooting Tower that Cochran turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the hip.

Both Cochran and Tower had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Tower has been released after receiving treatment from her gunshot wound while Cochran is still being treated for his hip injury, according to Granthum.

A child was also present at the scene but was unharmed.

Granthum said once Cochran is healthy enough to be released from the hospital, he will be arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Granthum spoke of how lucky Tower is to survive a gunshot wound to the neck.

“She is very fortunate that the bullet did not hit an artery,” Granthum said. “She is at home able to walk, talk and eat.”

Investigators are still looking into the situation, specifically as to why Cochran chose to shoot himself in the hip and why the fight broke out in the first place.
