Jean Hooper Scrushy

Jean Hooper Scrushy passed away on Oct. 27, 2017. She was born in Dallas County on Jan. 12, 1931. She lived in Selma most of her life and that’s where her children grew up.

She graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1949 and was still active, when able, with the Class of “49” when they met once a month.

She retired from Dallas County where she worked for 25 years.

While in Selma, she was a member of Elkdale Baptist Church. She taught an adult Sunday school class, was preschool director for the Selma Baptist Association and secretary for the Selma Baptist Association.

She was a member of the Vaughn Regional Hospital Auxiliary for a number of years.

She also served on the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliaries for 10 years holding several offices and serving as chairman for two years. She is a lifetime member of Thomas Hospital Auxiliary in Fairhope.

Ms. Scrushy is preceded in death by her mother and father, James Hubert Hooper Sr. and Edna Quarles Hooper; husbands, George Nathan Edwards and Gerald Marin Scrushy; sister, Doris Hooper Jones; and niece, Karen Jane Hooper.

Ms. Scrushy is survived by her brother, James H. Hooper Jr. (Jane); children, Charles Wayne Friday (Suzanne) of Selma, Gary Michael Friday (Robin) of Macon, Georgia, Dianne Friday Boan (Mike) of Gulf Shores and Jeannie Friday O’Malley (Mike) of Mathews; eight grandchildren, Alison Dianne Goodlett (Hugh) of Foley, James Monroe Ingram III (Lisa) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Christopher Wayne Friday (Audra) of Athens, Lindsey Boan Sims (Roy) of New York, New York, Alicia Friday Slone (Gene) of Dothan, Michael Allen O’Malley (Sydney) of Birmingham,  Trenton James O’Malley of Fort Worth, Texas and Bryson William O’Malley of Mathews; five great-grandchildren, Cory Austin Short, Christian Wayne Friday, Kenzie Rose Friday, Kelsie Marie Friday and Jesse Parker Slone.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Letcher Mitchell, Alan Mitchell (Jean), Anne Simmoms and James H. Hooper III and other cousins and relatives.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home with Stuart Davidson officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Interment was in Pineview Memory Gardens. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Family served as Pallbearers.
