Oktober on the Avenue, Tale Tellin’ festivals on tap for Saturday

Despite chilly weather, there will be plenty on tap to do in Selma on Saturday.

Oktober on the Avenue will feature food, music, art, a classic car show and more on Water Avenue from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be a scarecrow contest at 10:30 a.m., followed by a chalk art contest at noon. Later in the day, there will be a pet parade at 2:30 p.m. and music at Charlie’s Place starting at 3 p.m.

There will be food available at Side Porch and Charlie’s.

The 39th annual Kathryn Tucker Windham Alabama Tale Tellin’ Festival will be at the Carneal Cultural Arts Center, located on 3 Church Street, with the Swappin’ Ground beginning at 6 p.m. and Tale Tellin’ starting at 7 p.m. on both Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28.

Dolores Hydock and Wanda Johnson will join Dovie Thomason as the story-tellers of the festival.  Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students with identification and free for children under the age of six.

There is a discounted family rate of $30 for two adults and two children under the age of 18.
