The Southside High School Panthers (4-2) finished a game in regular time for the first time in two weeks with a 46-8 victory over the B.B. Comer Tigers (0-6) in Sylacauga on Friday night.

Panthers quarterback Gneil Johnson accounted for five total touchdowns in the decisive victory. Johnson had three passing touchdowns and two on the ground.

“He probably had about 260 passing and about 135 rushing yards,” Southside head coach Daniel Flowers said.

Earlier in the week, Flowers said he wanted to get his offense off to a quicker start instead of waiting until late in the game.

“I wanted to get up early, and take them out early,” he said. “Defense played some good ball. We played hard.”

The Panthers have another road region game next week against Montgomery Academy. The team is currently 3-1 in the region with only two region games left on the schedule. The game against Montgomery Academy will determine if the Panthers will make the playoffs.
Selma drops to .500 with loss

The Selma High Saints (3-3) lost their third region game of the season 26-6 to the Northridge Jaguars on Friday night.

The Saints haven’t been able to put together back-to-back wins this season, and haven’t defeated a region opponent yet.

According to Saints head coach Christopher Raymond, the team didn’t execute the plays well and gave up costly turnovers.

“We didn’t execute or perform to our ability,” he said. “We turned the ball over like three times inside the 10-yard line.”

The Saints also fumbled and threw an interception in the end zone, which further hurt their cause.

“You can’t beat quality teams doing that,” Raymond said. “We are still making young mistakes.”

The Saints only score of the game came on a run by running back Amarian Molette.

The Saints are running out of meaningful games to play that could propel them into the playoffs. There are only three region games left and they need to run the table just to finish 3-3 in the region. “We’re still trying to right the ship and change the culture,” Raymond said.

The next game for the Saints is a home region match against the Brookwood Panthers (0-6)
Keith High School defeats Francis Marion in region game

The Keith High School Bears (3-3) defeated region opponent Francis Marion (1-5) 38-12 on Friday night in Marion.

The offense was led by Jeashan Black, who had two rushing touchdowns and a kick return touchdown, and Levi Thomas who also scored a rushing touchdown.

Bears quarterback Jared Edwards threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trashaud Jackson.

“We were able to pull off the victory, and that’s really going to help us out in determining who is second place in the region,” Keith head coach Harry Crum said.

The Bears are now 2-1 in the region.

Their next game is a home region match against Verbena (0-6).
Meadowview, Russell christian

Results from Meadowview Christian game at Russell Christian Academy in Mississippi could not be confirmed at press time.

Ellwood Christian

Ellwood Christian fell at Memorial Stadium on Friday night to Notasulga 44-0.

The Eagles were able to keep the game close for the first half, but Notasulga scored four touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away.

Ellwood was able to drive inside or near the redzone a few times in the second half but either turned the ball over on downs or fumbles.

The Eagles (0-6) host Autaugaville (0-5) next week for Homecoming, and one team will look to get into the winner’s column this season.
