Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore won in Dallas County with 55 percent of the vote.

Moore earned 1,302 votes to Sen. Luther Strange’s 1,081.

Strange, Alabama’s former attorney general, was appointed by former Gov. Robert Bentley to finish U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ term.

Only eight percent of voters in Dallas County went to the polls Tuesday.

Out of 31,086 registered voters, only 2,381 votes were cast, according to Suzanne Ingram, chief clerk in the Dallas County Probate Office.

Back in July’s party primaries, there were 3,060 Democratic votes and 2,226 votes cast. The combined turnout in that election was around 16 percent.

Moore will face Democratic challenger and former U.S. District Attorney Doug Jones in a December general election.
