A Selma man is in critical condition and another was treated and released after a shooting late Monday night.
According to Lt. Tory Neely with the Selma Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday at George Washington Carver Homes.
Neely said 26-year-old Kendrick Towns has been arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault. The two victims were identified as Maurice Williams and Courtney Williams.
“Basically, Maurice and Kendrick got into an argument,” Neely said. “Kendrick pulled out a handgun and shot Maurice in the back area.”
Maurice was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and is still listed in critical condition.
Courtney Williams was also shot during the altercation.
“Courtney, who was not a part of the argument and was an innocent bystander, was also struck in the lower back,” Neely said. “He was treated and released.”
Neely said Towns, the alleged shooter, fled the scene and was caught after a traffic stop.
“Kendricks left the area, and patrol put BOLO (be on the lookout) for him,” Neely said. “He was stopped on a traffic stop, detained, taken to headquarters for questioning and arrested,” Neely said.
Towns is being held on a $120,000 bond at the Dallas County Jail.
