LETTER: It is time to speak out against racism

Published 10:27 pm Thursday, September 7, 2017

Dear Editor,

As we have watched the events in Charlottesville and elsewhere unfold, it is critical and necessary that we shine a light on the hatred, bigotry and racism which was on display. We must repudiate these behaviors in the strongest terms possible and move toward a tolerant and diverse community where everyone, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, politics or gender, is treated equally and with common decency.

As a leader in my community with an obligation to provide educational opportunities to all, I must stand up and speak out against racism, bigotry and hate in all forms. It has no place in a civilized society and should never be condoned.

It is time that we publicly and personally reject such acts of hatred and bigotry as barbaric and unacceptable. We must show the bigots their outrageous behavior will not be tolerated in our society and will be confronted at all levels. If we come together, we can send a strong message that hat has no place in America.
