EDITORIAL: New Selma City superintendent named

Thursday night at a called board meeting, the Selma City School board voted unanimously to hire Avis Williams as the new superintendent.

Selma hasn’t had a very good recent history with top level administration, from being taken over by the state to the last superintendent abruptly leaving after violating the contract. We hope to see that change now.

Williams applied for the position once before, and even though she didn’t get it the first time, she applied again because she can see the potential in Selma and wants to help make it a better place for the students in the community.

We hope that she will put the students first and will spend many years here rebuilding the school system and helping the students along the way.

She brings with her a strong educational and work  history, and we hope to see her excel in her new role. Welcome and good luck to the new superintendent.
