The Bud Burns Dixie Junior Invitational brought some talented boys and girls golfers to Selma this week. Unfortunately, heavy rain fall Wednesday forced the tournament to only last one day.

The results of the first round were used to determine the winner of the boy’s tournament.  The first and second round determined the girl’s winner. The girl’s divisions were broken down into three age groups. The boy’s divisions were broken down into six.

The winner of the boy’s tournament was Riley Thrasher, a native of Trinity with a score of 71. Jacob Lecroy and Gauge Cornelius tied for second place.

Brooke Sansom of Pike Road took home the first place trophy for the girls with a score of 68. Hannah Pope and Savannah Johnson finished right behind her in second and third place.

Thomas Morris of Selma tied with four other participants with a score of 74. Fellow Selma native David Cochran finished in tenth place with a score of 77.

“The tournament is always a lot of fun,” Thomas Morris said. “The organizers always put on a good show, and everyone always comes out to have a good time.”

The boys’ groups were broken down into the ages of 10 and under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18. The girls’ age groups were 11-15 and 16-18.

The tournament was set to continue on Wednesday if the rain permitted. Despite the shortened tournament, participants tried their best to make out of the situation.

“The rain did hurt a little bit, but I feel everyone still had a good time overall,” Morris said.
