Operation Lifesaver, a national organization, will host a Rail Safety event at the Old Depot Museum Wednesday, June 21.

It is a great opportunity to have fun with the family while educating children on rail safety.

Nancy Hudson, executive director, said that the event will include hot dogs, games and a bounce house.

The event will be open to all ages, and it is completely free of charge.

Train rides will also be offered to kids at the Rail Safety event.

People are invited to come to the Old Depot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The nonprofit program is dedicated to reducing death and injuries at railroad crossings and along railroad rights of way.

Operation Lifesaver reaches out to schools, civic organizations, businesses and exhibits to set up events to educate people on the dangers of railways.

June has been declared Rail Safety Month by the Governor’s Office, and it is celebrated across the state.

Events, similar to the one that will be hosted in Selma this Wednesday, will be hosted all over Alabama to celebrate Rail Safety Month.

The organization is aiming to teach people about different ways to stay safe on the railway, while having fun with family and friends.
