Jazz on the Grazz kicked off the city of Selma’s One Hot Summer series Saturday with music, food, activities and fun for the whole family.

Jazz music and children playing could be heard downtown on Water Avenue as the bands performed and the little ones enjoyed the kids’ corner.

Patrick and Sandra Bonner have been before, and they continue to go and enjoy the free event at Phoenix Park, saying they were glad the city hosts events like this.

“It’s a great turn out,” Sandra said. “I can tell every year that it’s growing. We’re looking forward to next year.”

The couple, who recently wed, found their reception band at last year’s annual event.

“Last year we came, and one of the bands that performed, we ended up booking them for our wedding reception,” Sandra said.

“They’re performing again today. We fell in love with them and we had to book them for our wedding.”

Patrick said as a musician himself, it’s really nice to get outside and listen to others perform.

“I’m a musician myself, I play the drums, so I’m familiar with a lot of people that will be performing and they’re pretty good,” Patrick said.

“It is very chill, relaxed environment with good music and live bands, and everybody loves live music. You can’t beat something that the city offers for everyone.”

The children were running around, enjoying the inflatable jump house from the Selma Fire Department and the departments Engine MJ93-90 as well as the water slide.

“It’s something to keep people out of trouble, that’s the main thing,” Patrick said. “You always need to offer something good to the city and I think this is a pretty good event.”
