The Selma Art Guild is ready to show off all the artists that competed in this year’s competition.

The Selma Art Guild Annual Show will open Sunday with a reception from 2-4 p.m., and it features many new artists.

“We’ve had several people that are brand new and are in their first art show ever,” said Karen Weir, co-president of the Art Guild. “They are so excited to come to the reception and be among other artists.”

The guild is full of various works, from painting to photography and mixed media. Weir said there’s something for everyone.

“We have a lot of variety from the abstracts to the more primitive looks,” Weir said. “It’s nice because you’ve got the textures of fabrics and collages and acrylics and watercolor and pen and ink drawings and sculptures that are iron, wood or stone, encaustic and some mixed media so we really have a wide variety.”

The show was judged by Brooks Barrow out of Montgomery. The best in show will receive $500, followed by $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place.

The regional competition has around 60 pieces for people to view and enjoy.

“Come see the variety and what’s happening here in Selma,” Weir said. “Come on out and see the work.”

The show will remain open on Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 4 p.m. throughout June and July.

The guild will also be open Saturday, July 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the monthly Art Walk downtown.
