The Selma High School band is partnering with The Big River Carwash in an effort to raise money for their growing band.

Several members of the band will work shifts June 8 at the carwash, located on North Broad Street to vacuum, dry and wipe down windows.

Fifty percent of all sales made that day by the car wash will go to Selma High’s band for the purchase of new uniforms. Donations will also be accepted.

“We are trying to show that our city stands together through this partnership,” Selma High Band director Brandon Williams said.

Williams push this event into motion by reaching out to Selma High School’s principal Emma Alexander and the Dallas County Superintendent Hattie Shelton.

They took the ball and ran with it by reaching out to local entrepreneurs and businesses. Judge Bob Armstrong also helped the band get in touch with people that were willing to help.

The band then put on a showcase for several entrepreneurs to show what they were made of and why this will be a good investment into the community.

Selma High alum Jerria Martin came out and spoke about how being in the band changed her life and how it has help mold her into the person she is today.

“I hope the kids see that they are people in their own community that are willing to help them if they ask,” Williams said.

The Big River Carwash will be open June 8 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
