The Humane Society of Central Alabama and The Selma Times-Journal are teaming up to offer pet owners an opportunity to have professional portraits of their furry friends while raising money to help homeless animals, with Pix for Pets.

“We are super excited because we know that people will be so pleased with these pictures of their dogs or cats and it gives us a chance to meet more people with dogs and cats while raising money for the Humane Society,” said Lynn Sanders, vice president of the Humane Society of Central Alabama.

The Humane Society helps with a number of organizations and entities, like the Adoptable Dogs Program at the Selma Animal Shelter, Selma’s Purrrfect Pals, and their own low income spay/neuter program.

“Our motto is ‘Helping animals to help people,’” Sanders said.

“All of the animals have to be fully vetted, that means for them to get all of their vaccines, to be spayed or neutered, heartworm checked, and we have some that require heartworm treatment and some that may require some extra medical stuff, then we have to keep them on flea prevention and heartworm prevention, so all of the money we make goes back into getting those animals ready for homes and maintaining those animals until they get homes.”

Sanders said the benefit will also give her and other volunteers the chance to meet some people with pets in the community and hopefully even get people to help volunteer with some of the organizations.

“It gives us a chance to reach out to more people and tell them about the programs that we offer and the programs that we have coming up,” Sanders said.

“It may also give people an opportunity to volunteer with our programs if they learn more about them.”

Pix for Pets will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at the Times-Journal, located at 1018 Water Ave.

Portraits can be of the pet, or the pet and owner. Photographs will be taken by Times-Journal photographer, Alaina Denean Deshazo.

A donation of $15 is required and can be paid by cash of a check made payable to the Humane Society of Central Alabama, and participants will receive a digital copy to their email with rights to print.

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.
