Multiple shootings

A Selma man in his 50s was shot in the head and neck early Wednesday morning.

According to Captain Johnny King with the Selma Police Department, officers responded to the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center after they received a call about a gunshot victim.

“Upon arrival at the hospital, officers discovered that the victim was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and also to the side of the head,” King said in a press release.

According to investigators, the victim was driving near the intersection of Plant Street and Etheridge Avenue. Shots were then fired into the vehicle, striking both the victim and the vehicle multiple times. The shooters have not been identified.

The victim managed to drive himself home to his family, who took him to the emergency room for treatment.

The victim was then transported to a medical facility out of town for further treatment and observation.

The department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is heading up the investigation. The shooters could be faced with charges of first-degree assault, which is a class B felony, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, which is a class B felony as well.

The Times-Journal was unable to get a medical update on the victim Friday.

A husband and wife were also shot earlier this week on the 900 block of King Street around 3 a.m.

They were inside their home when someone fired shots into the home, striking both of them.

According to King, they were shot in the hand and leg area. They were transported to the Vaughan Regional Medical for initial treatment and then transported to an out of town medical facility.

The CID is heading up this investigation as well and are asking the public for help.
