A 25-year-old Selma man had his probation revoked and was sentenced to a decade in jail after pleading guilty to a 2016 burglary.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Jamie Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary in circuit court. Jackson said Johnson was on probation for a 2010 receiving stolen property charge.

Johnson was given 10 years in prison for the second-degree burglary charge, which will run concurrent with a 15-year sentence he was given for receiving and selling stolen copper gutters from Houston Park Church in 2010.

According to court documents, Johnson was arrested in July 2010 for selling $4,000 worth of copper gutters to a scrapyard for just over $250.

The burglary Johnson pleaded guilty to happened on May 21, 2016, on the 2000 block of Lauderdale Street.

According to report from the Selma Police Department, a woman was awakened by a noise and saw Johnson standing in her bedroom.

“She yelled at the subject and asked him why he was in her house, and he retreated to the adjourning bathroom and locked the door,” the report read.

Johnson then broke the window and fled from the house. The victim said she saw him run across the street and tried to get in the house, but no one let him inside. She then told officers she lost sight of him as he ran down the street.

While the responding officer was interviewing the victim, the officer noticed a man that fit Johnson’s description walking up the street.

The man walked behind a residence next door to the house across the street, and the officer tried to make contact with him.

“The subject was able to enter the rear of the residence before [the] officer could make contact with him,” the report stated.

The officer was able to get someone to answer the door, and the suspect was found inside the house hiding underneath a bed. He was taken into custody and identified as Johnson. The victim was able to identify Johnson as the man that was standing in her bedroom.

During the investigation, officers found where Johnson had broken a window to get into the house he burglarized.

“We will continue to crack down on those burglars of homes, businesses and churches,” Jackson said.
