A car with a juvenile and two younger children was shot into Monday night outside of a Selma convenience store.

According to Lt. Tory Neely with the Selma Police Department, a man was walking out of a store on the 800 block of First Avenue when gunshots rang out around 10:27 p.m.

“The guy was coming out of the store and a car coming by stopped in front of the store and started firing shots,” he said. “They didn’t hit the man they were shooting at, but they struck the vehicle several times.”

None of them were struck by the gunfire, but the juvenile and two children had minor cuts from the shattered windows. Neely said investigators believe the shooters were targeting the adult.

“I don’t think they knew the juveniles were in the car,” he said.

“The car is the only thing that got hit.”

The adult victim left the scene before police could arrive to investigate, and no suspects have been identified as of Tuesday afternoon.

The department is releasing a description of the vehicle where shots were fired from.

According to Neely, the shots came from an older model two-door white Honda Accord. The car has chrome hubcaps.

Neely said investigators were able to identify the car through footage from a nearby security camera. They were able to see the car and what happened in front of the convenience store.

The victim’s mother was inside the store at the time of the shooting, but she didn’t see what happened.

“She had actually just got out of the car and went in the store, and he had just came out of the store and was getting into the car,” he said. “She was already inside, so she didn’t really have any information for us.”

The department is asking for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-442-7463, the SPD Criminal Investigation Division at (334) 874-2125 or the secret witness line at (334) 874-2190.
