Meadowview Christian senior Shelby Boswell described Tuesday as a roller coaster emotionally. It’s easy to see why.

Boswell signed with Stillman College in Tuscaloosa Tuesday afternoon, seeing a lifelong dream of playing softball in college come true. Once there, she plans to study biology and become a physical therapist.

“It was very, very relieving,” Boswell said of finally signing. “I’ve been so stressed out about where I was going to school. I finally made a choice, and I think I made the right one. I’m very happy about it and can’t wait.”

She said Stillman made a better offer than other schools that had recruited her. Plus, she was very comfortable at the school.

“I play travel ball during the summer and a lot of our practices are at Stillman,” she said. “Actually last year, a couple of my travel ball coaches played at Stillman and they were at my signing too.”

The rest of her afternoon wasn’t quite as good.

Boswell injured her hand in the third inning of Tuesday’s sub-state game against Brooklane Baptist and had to exit the game with a hurt pinkie finger.

She tried to return and even pitched the majority of the third inning, but couldn’t grip the ball well enough and also couldn’t hold a bat.

She ended up having to watch half of her final high school softball game from the dugout.

“I hate watching especially since this is my last game of high school. But even in general, just playing softball, I hate watching,” Boswell said.

As Meadowview’s starting pitcher, Boswell played an instrumental part in Meadowview’s 2016 state championship team. She joins Mallory Friene as the second softball player on Meadowview’s softball team to sign a scholarship this year.

Freine is going to Wallace Community College Selma to play volleyball.
