STATE TRACK: ECA’s Walker wins two events in Cullman

Ellwood Christian seventh grader Rashni Walker is coming back from the Alabama High School Athletic Association state championships with two first place medals.

Walker bested the field to win the girls 1A 100 meter hurdles and the girls 300 meter hurdles Saturday in Cullman. She won the 100-meter event with a time of 15.89 seconds, narrowly edging Whiteburg;s Katherine Brandon by 0.06 seconds.

Walker finished with a time of 47.37 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, just ahead of Notasulga’s Walteria Tatum, who finished with a time of 47.57 seconds.

Ellwood’s girls track team finished ninth overall in 1A with 20 points, thanks to Walker’s two wins.

Ellwood’s Malachi Walker finished seventh in the boys 800 meter run in 1A, earning the Eagles two points on the boys side.

He finished with a time of 2 minutes, 12.42 seconds.

In Gulf Shores — where the 4A-7A meet was held Saturday — Dallas County’s girls 4×100 relay team finished seventh in the final with a time of 51.67 seconds.

Both track meets were held simultaneously and wrapped up on Saturday afternoon.
