The Alabama High School Athletic Association area softball tournaments begin on Friday and will continue into next week. Every area tournament is double elimination. Here’s a look at where each local team will be playing in the playoffs:
Ellwood Christian

Class 1A, Area 5 Tournament

No. 4 seed Ellwood Christian will play No. 1 seed Maplesville in the first round of the class 1A, area 5 tournament on May 2 at 10 a.m. Maplesville won both meetings between the teams this year 22-0 and 17-1. Autaugaville and Isabella will meet in the other first round matchup in tournament. The entire tournament will be played on May 2.
Southside

Class 3A, Area 5 Tournament

No. 3 seed Southside will face No. 2 seed Montevallo in the first round of the class 3A, area 5 tournament on May 4 at 10 a.m. The Panthers lost to Montevallo 15-0 and 18-1 in two games this year. The winner will move on to face No. 1 seed Prattville Christian, the host of the tournament. Prattville defeated Southside 15-0 and 18-1 this year. The entire tournament will be played May 4.
Dallas County

Class 5A, Area 7 Tournament

No. 2 seed Dallas County will face No. 3 seed Central Tuscaloosa at 1 p.m. in the first round of the class 5A, area 7 tournament on May 2. The tournament will be played at No. 1 seed Demopolis. Dallas County won both its regular season games over Central Tuscaloosa 14-0 and 25-2. Neither team won a game against Demopolis this year. The entire tournament will be played on May 2.
Selma

Class 6A, Area 5 Tournament

No. 3 seed Selma will play No. 2 seed Chilton County Friday in the first round of the class 6A, area 5 tournament at 5 p.m. The tournament is being played at No. 1 seed Stanhope Elmore. The winner of Friday’s first game will play Stanhope at 6:30 p.m. The rest of the tournament will be played Saturday.
