A 31-year-old Selma man that was shot Friday night in a triple shooting has died.

Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey confirmed Wednesday Christopher Deon Cooper died Monday from a gunshot wound to the head. According to Cooper’s obituary, he passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

The shooting happened Friday around 8:30 p.m. on the 300 block of South Avenue.

According to Lt. Tory Neely with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Selma Police Department, gunfire rang out after a group of guys from the Twenty Foot Avenue area were upset about a man from the Kings Bend Road area that was hanging out with someone on South Avenue.

“It caused a confrontation, which the guy that was visiting they tried to get him in the house, and then it went too far and somebody started shooting,” Neely said Saturday.

Neely said Wednesday the other two victims, a 25-year-old male and 30-year-old male, were listed as being in stable condition.

Cooper was first transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center for initial treatment, but he was then airlifted to UAB Hospital. He died two days later.

No arrests have been made in the case, which has been upgraded to a homicide investigation. Collier said Saturday the department’s recently formed Crime Suppression Unit had been assigned to the case.

Neely said investigators have been able to get a better picture of what happened Friday. He said investigators are currently working the case.

This is the city’s second murder of 2017. Selma’s first murder happened Jan. 14 when 23-year-old Nick Bell was found shot to death in a car on Alabama Avenue. This is the overall murder in city and county combined. The county’s first murder was also Friday, when 19-year-old Ratravious Sanders allegedly accidentally shot 19-year-old Rufus Williams Jr. Sanders has been charged with murder in the case.
