A 29-year-old Sardis woman was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident, and a 26-year-old Selma man is behind bars for allegedly leaving the scene of the accident.

According to Senior Trooper Reginal King, Leslie Ann Stokes was killed when a 2001 Ford F-250 truck driven by Nicholas Clay Campbell struck the 2004 Chevrolet Aveo Stokes was a passenger of.

The accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Dallas County Road 37 just three miles east of Selma.

Campbell was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and is being held on a $15,000 bond.

The driver of the Aveo, a 21-year-old Sardis woman, was also injured in the accident. The extent of her injuries is unknown at this time, but she was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

No other information about the wreck has been released at this time. King said the accident is still under investigation.

Stokes is survived by her parents, Jeff and Ann Smith and Mitchell Johnson; children Braydn Stokes and Ryker Bone; brothers, Mitchell Johnson, Blake Walton and T.J. Smith; sister, Mary Singleton; great-grandmother, Virginia Helms; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.
