Three Selma men have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly exchanging gun fire with at least two other people Wednesday afternoon.

According to Lt. Tory Neely with the Selma Police Department, the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. on the 2100 block of Minter Avenue.

“Some guys in an SUV rode through Minter Avenue and saw some guys standing out there with some weapons,” Neely said Thursday. “Some gunfire was exchanged, and they left the scene.”

Thomas Ford, 21, Deandre Kennedy, 18, and Barry Ford, 18, have each been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Barry was also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied building or vehicle and second-degree assault. They are each being held at the Dallas County Jail on $1 million bond.

Neely said the gunfight continued when the three men in the car returned to the scene a few minutes later.

“Apparently, they had some kids in the car. They went and dropped the kids off and came back to finish it off,” Neely said.

Neely said Barry Ford was the only person injured in the shootout, which involved multiple kinds of guns. Ford was apparently struck by shrapnel during the exchange and was treated and released from Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

According to witnesses, one of the three men in the car shot first.

“They actually struck a tire and a window on a vehicle,” Neely said. “So the other guys returned fire, striking the vehicle.”

Neely said there are two other suspects in the case but did not identify them. Those two suspects will face the same charge of attempted murder.

Investigators are not sure what sparked the gun fight, but did say there has been an ongoing situation between the two parties.

“It’s an ongoing battle between two or three individuals,” Neely said.
