The Selma Art Guild is hosting the art work of Judson College students this month.

The guild will open to preview the show Friday from noon until 4 p.m. and will hold an opening reception on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The show is for art majors at Judson College.

“We are delighted to have it, and we have partnered with them before,” said Art Guild co-president Karen Weir. “They do things like digital art … and it’s really cool.”

The work displayed at the art guild includes all different types of art. Several of the art pieces include digital design work, which may look a little different than what most people are used to.

Some of those pieces included words making up the face of a person, but others show the map of the Marion community.

“It’s in part to show that the arts aren’t just limited to drawing and painting,” said Jamie Adams, head of the Art Department at Judson. “We have a lot of graphic design work here, but it’s also to help people have access to the arts.”

Other pieces are related to many several different inspirations — including the Madea movies, television shows and life as an African American woman.  About a dozen students will have their work displayed at the art guild the rest of the month.

“Every opportunity to come down, the students get a lot out of it,” Adams said. “We do projects here, Camden, Tuscaloosa and every time we do one, they are super jazzed up to be a part of it. I’m really proud of them for that.”

Adams said he cannot wait for the community to get a chance to see the work displayed this month.

“We have a couple of pieces that aren’t displayed yet that are stunning,” he said. “They are a great group of girls, and I think they are really thinking outside the box about how they make images.”

The show will continue April 21-22 from noon until 4 p.m. and on April 28-29 at the same times. For more information, call (334) 875-1055. The Selma Art Guild is located at 508 Selma Avenue.
