Having a baby is difficult. There’s so much to buy and it can be an overwhelming time. Many things come to mind immediately, such as a crib, bassinet, diapers, bottles and clothes, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

That’s not to mention all of the concerns and fears you have as a new parent.

This month the Dallas County Family Resource Center is doing its part to take some of the stress away.

The resource center is throwing a community baby show April 20 at Blue Jean Church on the corner of Selma Avenue and Franklin Street from 5-7 p.m.

The department will focus on the risks of SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The resource center will give information about how to reduce the risk of SIDS, such as having babies sleep on their back.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, 409 babies died between 2011 and 2015 from SIDS or other related causes.

There will also be food, family portraits, children’s activities and other organizations there as well, such as the Selma Fire Department.

People are encouraged to come dressed in their Sunday best for the portraits.

It sounds like there will be a lot to learn and plenty to do at the resource center that day, so any new parents or anyone expecting a new baby soon is encouraged to go.
