Two Selma men were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly shooting a man and woman on Twenty Foot Avenue.

Danny Tate, 24, and Darrell Struggs, 34, have been charged with two counts each of first-degree assault. Struggs was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm. They are both being held without bond at the Dallas County Jail.

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said several calls were made from the house on the 300 block of Twenty Foot Avenue.

“I actually answered one of the calls myself. It involved in-laws,“ Collier said. “The first several calls upon our arrival, the suspects left, and I guess approximately a little after 8 p.m. they came back.”

That’s when Tate and Struggs allegedly opened fire, shooting a woman and a man. One victim was airlifted to a medical facility in another county, while the other was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. The female was shot in the hip, and the male was shot in the leg.

It is unclear at this time of what the motive is in the case.

“They then fled the scene, and they were coming back into town,” said Lt. Tory Neely, who helped work the scene.

“As they were coming into town, our dispatchers gave a description of the vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and apprehended the suspects.”

After being taken to the department for questioning, Neely said Tate and Struggs were identified as the shooters.

Collier said the duo did not want to cooperate Wednesday during their interview with investigators.

“They exercised their right and asked for an attorney, so we terminated the questioning, but we had more than ample probable cause to arrest them,” Collier said.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said both men will be arraigned in Dallas County District Court Thursday morning.

Collier said the department is requesting no bond for Tate and Struggs.
