Spring break is now over for most of us in Selma and Dallas County, meaning it’s back to work, school and the stress of life this week.

Trips to the beach or out of town are always fun, but heading back home is always a letdown. That’s not because heading home in general isn’t as fun, it’s because we know the week of work that piled up in our absence will be there whenever we get back in.

Luckily, this whole week doesn’t have to be all that stressful. Not only is the weather outside beautiful, but there are several events this week that encourage people to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

The Selma Area Food Bank is hosting a bass fishing tournament fundraiser Saturday at Roland Cooper State Park in Camden, with weigh in scheduled to start around 3 p.m. We’re sure spectators will be welcome and anyone that wants to participate is still encouraged to do so. To register, call (334) 412-5216. Nothing is more relaxing than a day of fishing, and the food bank could use all the help it can get.

If fishing isn’t your thing, two walking tours will also be held on Saturday. Old Cahawba’s Civil War history walking tour will start at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 per person.

The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Alabama Tourism Department will partner to host a walking tour at 10 a.m. The city’s walking tour is free.

If none of those three events sound up your alley, then consider just getting outside and enjoying the good weather. Paul Grist State Park and Old Cahawba are both great places to enjoy the outdoors and if the forecast is correct temperatures are supposed to remain near the 80s all week.

Spring is officially underway and there’s plenty to do around Selma.
