A fifth suspect wanted for allegedly shooting at a Selma police officer last Wednesday turned himself in Saturday, and a sixth suspect was arrested in Chilton County but bonded out before warrants from Selma were processed in the system.

Calvin Boyd, 23, turned himself in Saturday afternoon, according to Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier. Boyd is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, first-degree hindering prosecution, first-degree criminal mischief and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

“He turned himself in that evening,” Collier said. “He was interviewed and he refused to cooperate.”

Collier said they are requesting Boyd be held without bond.

Jarmarcus Brenson, 20, who is wanted on the same charges, was arrested by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department Thursday on drug charges. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree possession of marijuana and promoting prison contraband.

Lt. Tory Neely with the Selma Police Department said Brenson was bailed out before his warrants in Selma were processed in the computer system.

“Sometimes it takes time to get the paperwork in the computer, and we run into those problems sometimes, but we’ve been in touch with Chilton County,” Neely said. “They’re familiar with him, so if he comes back through if there is any hit or contact with him, they’ll be able to apprehend him.”

Four others alleged to be involved in the shooting have already been charged. Damarious Pullom, 26, turned himself in last Thursday. Charles Pullom, 36, Brandon Hatcher, 35, and Deseray Strong, 20, were arrested Wednesday.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. that morning on Eisenhower Street inside the police jurisdiction.

A BOLO went out from the county looking for a white Dodge Charger that was suspected of being involved in a shooting into a house.

A Selma police officer spotted the vehicle, followed it and turned on his blue lights in an attempt to stop it when it turned onto Eisenhower, a dead-end street.

Collier said last week in a press conference the officer anticipated a foot chase and exited his vehicle.

“[The officer] said he exited, and immediately all four doors opened and he just started taking rounds,” Collier said last week. “Very brave and smartly, he was able to get it in reverse and literally punch the gas pedal to get distance between them.”

The officer, which was shot at just a few weeks earlier, was not injured. Investigators recovered multiple weapons at the scene, including a high-powered carbine rifle and an SKS rifle, as well as a 100-round drum, which he described as “military style equipment.”

Boyd, Brenson, Damarious Pullom and Charles Pullom have been identified as being in the car when the shooting happened.

Collier said Hatcher and Strong aided and abetted the other four, but were given the same charges as the others under state law.

Strong, Hatcher and Charles Pullom had their bond set Monday morning. Strong was bailed out on a $100,000 bond, and Hatcher was bailed out on a $250,000 bond.

Charles Pullom is being held on a $1 million bond, while Demarious Pullom is still being held without bond.
