A high-speed chase involving two shooting suspects ended in a head-on collision Sunday morning near the intersection of Broad Street and Highland Avenue.

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said both suspects were ejected from the vehicle.

“We had a patrol officer outside when they pulled away. He attempted to stop them, and it led to a pursuit,” Collier said Monday. “The suspects went into the opposing lane and hit someone head on. Both suspects were ejected along with their AR-15.”

Collier said the victims in the car the suspects crashed into were transported to the hospital for nonlife threatening injuries.

Lt. Sam Miller with the Selma Police Department said the original call came on the 1200 block of Woodrow Avenue.

“Police were responding to the 1200 block of Woodrow Avenue in reference to a shooting. They met with a lady outside of her residence. An officer heard some gunshots and noticed a vehicle coming around the corner at a high rate of speed,” Miller said.

“He attempted to pull the vehicle over. It didn’t stop, and they got into a high-speed chase. They crossed over Highland at Broad and struck another vehicle.”

The suspects names have not been released yet. Collier said they have not been charged yet because they are still in the hospital. He said they could be facing four different felony charges.

Two Selma men were injured in a shooting outside of Club Entourage on Alabama Avenue Sunday morning as well.

Lt. Miller said a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old, who are brothers, were shot as they were exiting the club.

Collier said the altercation started out as a fight and turned into a shooting.

The 19-year-old was shot in the foot, but the 21-year-old was shot in the groin and upper left back. He is listed as in critical condition and was airlifted to a Tuscaloosa hospital.

No arrest has been made in the shooting.

Selma officers also responded to a major fight inside the Selma High School gymnasium that broke out before the celebrity basketball game that was put on by BOSS Youth League.

Collier said one officer that was working security at the game called in a double-zero, which meant he was completely overwhelmed. A video of the fight posted to YouTube shows more than a dozen people in the stands fighting and others running to get away from the melee.

As an officer walks up the bleachers, the multiple groups of people fighting take off running.

Querline Moore, who runs BOSS Youth League, said none of the players involved in the game were involved in the fight. She said the game went on afterwards with no problem.

No arrests have been made yet, but Collier said video evidence could lead to charges.
