Churches come together for pre-Lenten meditation

Cornerstone Presbyterian Church will be hosting a women’s pre-Lenten luncheon and service with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Monday, Feb. 13.

Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with worship beginning at 11 a.m.  Lunch and further discussion immediately following worship.  Register by calling Cornerstone at (334) 872-3449 or St. Paul’s at (334) 874-8421.

The guest speaker is the Rev. Virginia Monroe.  Monroe, a native of Gadsden, received her master of divinity degree in 1994 from The School of Theology, Sewanee. She received her doctorate in ministry from Sewanee in 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Nursing and is a registered nurse.

She was ordained in 1994 and served on staff at the Church of the Nativity and later St. Stephen’s, Birmingham, until she was called to be the priest for pastoral Care at Christ Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

She served as the Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cashiers, from 2002-2015. She was the interim rector at St. Stephen’s Birmingham from 2015-2016. She lives in Huntsville.
