It is never easy to take care of someone that is sick, especially someone with a disease like Alzheimer’s.
Next week, Women and Youth Services Inc. of Selma will hold an orientation for a nine-part program aimed at helping caregivers have a place to go for questions and resources.
Having a program like “The Memory Keepers” is a great resource for people with family members that are diagnosed with the disease.
The nonprofit organization was founded in 2013 to help improve the quality of life for people in Selma and Dallas and Perry counties.
It is good to see an organization putting a program like this together. After all, Alzheimer’s disease effects millions of people across the United States, including right here in Selma and the surrounding areas
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, someone develops the disease every 66 seconds.
Dr. Verdell Dawson, chairman of the board for the nonprofit, said when the group came up with this program because it recognized a need in Selma.
We hope that people who have questions and are looking for answers to help them take care of their loved ones will take advantage of this program. It is free and, according to Dawson, it will offer advice from experts and the opportunity to ask questions one on one.
A program like this could really help caregivers get a better understanding of the disease.
Anyone that is interested in going can call Edna Montgomery at (334) 467-3837. The program will be held Jan. 26 at 515 Bell Road.
