Selma man allegedly runs over ex-girlfriend, charged with attempted murder

A 46-year-old Selma man was arrested Thursday for allegedly running over his ex-girlfriend and leaving her in critical condition.
According to interim Selma Police Chief Johnny King, Walter Young ran over his ex-girlfriend after he saw her with another man Thursday afternoon.
King said when officers arrived on scene around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on the 500 block of Maxey Street, they discovered a woman in her 30s that was run over by an SUV.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Walter Young drove up and seen his ex-girlfriend with another male and he got angry and/or jealous,” King said in a press release.
King said Young got out of his vehicle and started arguing and fighting with his ex-girlfriend after seeing her with someone else.
“Mr. Walter Young then got into an argument and physical fight with his ex-girlfriend,” King said. “Mr. Walter Young then got into an argument and physical fight with the male subject his ex-girlfriend was with.”
King said Young finally got back into his vehicle and ran his ex-girlfriend over. She was transported to a medical facility outside of Selma for treatment and observation. King said she is currently in critical condition.
King said both Young and the man his ex-girlfriend was with were treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center
Young was charged with domestic violence attempted murder and second-degree assault.
No other charges have been filed, and King said the case is still pending.
Young was booked at the Dallas County Jail and is being held on a $90,000 bond.
Domestic violence attempted murder is a Class A felony and punishable of no less than 10 years in prison and up to $60,000 in fines. Second-degree assault is a Class C felony and is punishable of no less than one year in prison and fines up to $15,000.
