Property taxes delinquent after Friday

Friday is the last day to pay property taxes in the city and county in person before they become delinquent.
Selma City Hall and the Dallas County Courthouse close at 4:30 p.m., so anyone that needs to pay their property taxes in person needs to come in before the offices close.
Cheri Brown, tax clerk for the city, said the office has been busy all week since they came back to work after the Christmas holiday.
“We’ve been busy all day,” Brown said. “There has to be two people here working together to catch the window.”
If property owners don’t know how much they owe or can’t make it into the office by the time they close, property taxes can be viewed or paid online.
“[People] can go online if they have a computer or if they have access to a computer, they can go to selmatax.com,” she said. “They can also pay it there with credit card or PayPal account. We are not accepting phone payments. We take a Dec. 31 postmark, and they can pay online.”
County property taxes can also be paid online at www.dallascountyproperty-tags.com. Residents can search by name or account number. The website provides an overview of property taxes for owners. A $.30 fee and 2.2 percent convenience fee will be added for online payments. They can be paid with most major credit cards.
The city’s website works the same way. You can search by name, and it provides an overview, tax break down and property details. The site takes most major credit cards and a small fee is added of 30 cents and 2.2 percent.
Property taxes will become delinquent after Dec. 31, and late fees will be added.
