Local artists will rock the night away at the Carneal ArtsRevive Building next Thursday for the fourth annual Art Jam.
The concert, which combines local music and art, is Thursday, Dec. 29 and is hosted by the Blackbelt Benefit Group and Main Street Selma.
“It’s a laid back event with great local art and local musicians,” said Clay Carmichael, president of Main Street Selma and a founder of the BBG. “It’s somewhere to kind of get away from the rush of Christmas and everything. It’s just a nice time to relax.”
Carmichael, said the event, which is usually held at Walton Theater, was moved to ArtsRevive this year to showcase the work they have done to the Carneal Building and Gallery 905 across the street.
“We kind of want to stress how important it is for ArtsRevive to complete their project as kind of a focal point for downtown revitalization,” Carmichael said. “That’s one of the main reasons we moved it down there.”
The lineup features Dylan Leblanc and the Pollies, special guests VK and Chip Spencer and a late addition, Paul Garner.
“We just added Paul Garner on for an opening set for his new CD release that he just came out with,” he said.
Gallery 905 will stay open late to sell music related art from 5-7:30 p.m. The Carneal Building will open at 6 p.m., and the music is set to start at 8 p.m.
“We’re pretty stoked about it,” Carmichael said. “We hope the community is more excited about it than we are. We just hope everybody can come out and enjoy themselves.”
Carmichael said some of the proceeds will go back to ArtsRevive to help with its project to turn Water Avenue into a revitalized art district.
“We just want to help them promote that and what’s going on down there,” Carmichael said. “We’re on board with them to kind of make that an arts district, and it’s slowly becoming that. We just want to stress the importance of that.”
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.artjamcarneals.bpt.me or at Gallery 905.
